The syndrome that I am living with is so rare that it is to this day undiagnosed. There are only 3 people in the world including myself who have it. Amanda, the oldest of the three is in her 30’s and lives with her husband Richard in England.  Abigail the youngest is 13 and lives in Austin as well. I’ve seen many different research doctors throughout my life and there just aren’t any answers.  What the syndrome causes is that I’m not able to gain weight.  I’m 19 years old right now and only weigh about 60 lbs.  I have zero percent body fat as well.  I’m also blind in one eye and have limited vision in the other.

I eat whatever I want all day long and just can’t keep the pounds on.  The syndrome is so puzzlng because it fits characteristics of different syndromes but doesn’t fit it to the point where I can be diagnosed with a certain one.  For example, one of the big ones is progeria.  I have a lot of the same physical features as kids with progeria.  Like the pointed nose, small mouth, and appearing with aging skin.  The difference is that progeria is terminal and has a lot more complications.  My only thing is the characteristics that I just listed.

Blue man

A Californian nicknamed Papa Smurf has revealed how he accidentally turned his skin permanently blue.

Paul Karason, 57, from Madera, appeared on NBC’s Today Show and spilled the beans to host Matt Lauer.

He suffered from stress-related dermatitis after his father’s death 14 years ago, and decided to treat it himself with home-made colloidal silver, an old medicine widely used before the discovery of penicillin.

The real elephant man

Huang Chuncai was diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis, and received a second operation on January 3, 2008 to lessen the 50-pound tumor from his face. The surgery was performed in China and removed 9.9 pounds of the tumor.

Named the “Elephant Man” by the press, Chuncai has lived most of his life in seclusion. The tumor first developed when Chuncai was four, and at the age of 10, he left school after being taunted by classmates. His family operates a farm, but could not afford the costly surgeries to remove the tumors. Fuda Hospital, in southern China, was contacted about Chuncai and offered to assist.

His first surgery was in July 2007, where 10 doctors removed 33 pounds of the tumor. The tumor contains many blood vessels, heightening the risk of excessive bleeding during each operation. The weight of the tumors have bent Chuncai’s backbone and left him barely able to speak or eat. Even after the tumors are removed, Chuncai will require further operations to remove the excess skin on his face. (more…)

Hang Mioku, now 48, had her first plastic surgery procedure when she was 28; hooked from the beginning she moved to Japan where she had further operations - mostly to her face.

Following operation after operation, her face was eventually left enlarged and disfigured, but she would still look at herself in the mirror and think she was beautiful.

Eventually the surgeons she visited refused to carry out any more work on her and one suggested that her obsession could be a sign of a psychological disorder.

In this post you will see some freaked out photos of x-rays. I wonder how people survived after those incidents.

Leonard Woronowicz, 63, had such a terrible headache that he was forced to go the hospital to check it out. The doctors pulled out a 12 cm long blade from his head. Four days earlier he had fallen from a chair in the kitchen and apparently the knife had hit him in the head. He did not realize what had happened, not even when he couldn’t find the blade to the knife. He later left the hospital with no permanent injuries.

THESE amazing images of a mammoth spider devouring a bird were taken in the backyard of an Atherton property, west of Cairns.

And the images, which are being cirulated via email worldwide, are real, according to wildlife experts.
The photos, believed to have been taken earlier this week, show the spider clenching its legs around a lifeless bird trapped in a web.

Joel Shakespeare, the head spider keeper at NSW’s Australian Reptile Park, told ninemsn that the spider was a Golden Orb Weaver.

A 56-foot, 60-ton sperm whale died on a beach in Taiwan in January, 2004. Researchers wanted the carcass to perform an autopsy and for research, so they loaded the whale onto a tractor-trailer and set out through the city of Tainan, heading for the Shi-Tsau Natural Preserve. It took 13 hours, three cranes and 50 workers to get the whale loaded on the truck. (more…)
